Piquette Square Brownfield Redevelopment

The Piquette Square project is located on the northwestern corner of Piquette and Brush streets in Detroit, MI. The project is on the same ground where a former Studebaker factory (1910) – later the Piquette Market – was destroyed by fire in 2005.

OUR ROLE

AKT Peerless worked with the developer and local and state agencies to develop creative solutions for this brownfield site to maximize the incentives available. AKT Peerless provided Environmental due diligence, Brownfield incentives, Remediation oversight, Grant and loan management, and Coordination with state agencies.

RESULTS

In 2011, the Piquette Square project in Detroit was selected by the National Phoenix Award Selection Committee to receive the nation’s highest honor for excellence in Brownfield Redevelopment; The Phoenix Award for Community Impact.

The Piquette Square project was further recognized as the First Runner Up for the Phoenix Grand Prize, the first award of this type ever awarded.

AKT Peerless provided environmental services and secured over $1,000,000 in Federal, State, and Local grants for environmental investigation and corrective action, and over $1.7 million in Brownfield Tax Credits.
